Information-Based Heuristics for Learned Goal-Driven Exploration and Mapping

Summary: This paper introduces a novel heuristic function for evaluating and selecting intermediate points in a goal-driven autonomous exploration and mapping system. By considering the training setting of the neural network, distance information towards the global goal, and map information, the proposed method guides the navigation system towards the goal in an informed manner. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of this approach over similar heuristic candidate point evaluation methods.
