How does global transport sector improve the emissions reduction performance? A demand-side analysis

Ya-Fang Sun et al.

Summary: The carbon intensity of the transport sector is influenced by both the production side and the demand side. Previous studies have focused on the production side, neglecting the demand-side carbon intensity. This paper uses the latest world input-output table to analyze the demand-side embodied carbon intensity of the transport sector from various perspectives. The results show that different modes of transport contribute differently to the demand-side and production-side carbon intensity, and that the transport sector in developed regions in Europe plays a significant role in regional embodied carbon intensity.

Decoupling and decomposition analysis of CO2 emissions from government spending in China

Shulei Cheng et al.

Summary: This study examines the role of government spending in CO2 mitigation in China, finding that most provinces experience weak decoupling between energy-saving and environmental protection (GSP) and CO2 emissions. Some provinces have achieved good results in decoupling, while others have performed poorly.

Can the aviation industry achieve carbon emission reduction and revenue growth simultaneously under the CNG2020 strategy? An empirical study with 25 benchmarking airlines

Qiang Cui et al.

Summary: This paper calculates the Pollution Abatement Costs (PAC) index and regulated profits of the global aviation industry using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model. It predicts the future data of 25 international benchmark airlines and finds that some airlines can achieve a win-win situation of carbon emission reduction and revenue growth. The setting of route conditions plays a crucial role in achieving this outcome.

Impact of government subsidy on the optimal R&D and advertising investment in the cooperative supply chain of new energy vehicles

Ya-Fang Sun et al.

Summary: The study finds that under certain conditions of research and development and advertising investment benefits, consumption-side subsidies can better improve the investment in research and development, advertising, profits, and social welfare in the new energy vehicles industry. Additionally, the government should prioritize consumption-side subsidies when formulating subsidy strategies and provide moderate subsidies for NEVs production and research and development investments to maximize social welfare.

Does China's carbon emissions trading scheme affect the market power of high-carbon enterprises?

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study uses the difference-in-differences method and mediating effect model to examine the impact of China's ETS on the market power of high-carbon enterprises. The results indicate that the implementation of China's ETS has led to a decline in the market power of these enterprises, mainly through reducing the level of horizontal integration. The policy has a significant negative impact on enterprises in the petrochemical and chemical industries, as well as state-owned enterprises with high financing constraints and large-scale operations.

The decoupling relationship between China's economic growth and carbon emissions from the perspective of industrial structure

Yuwei Du et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the decoupling relationship between energy-related CO2 emissions and economic growth in China from 2000-2017, focusing on the industrial structure. The LMDI method and Tapio decoupling model are utilized to decompose the driving forces behind decoupling. The findings suggest that the restructuring of China's industries has not led to a significant increase in CO2 emissions. However, the impact of industrial structure change varies across sectors, with the primary sector being most affected. Fossil energy remains crucial for China's economic development, emphasizing the need for technological innovation and the transition to non-fossil energy sources.

The relationship between manufacturing growth and CO2 emissions: Does renewable energy consumption matter?

Mian Yang et al.

Summary: The research found that manufacturing growth leads to a significant increase in CO2 emissions, but this effect weakens as renewable energy consumption expands; Most sample countries and subsectors have experienced a transformation in the relationship between manufacturing growth and emissions; Compared to coal, coke, and crude, manufacturing subsectors dependent on natural gas, electricity, and heat have lower emissions.

Vineet Singh Sikarwar et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of reduced activity during the COVID-19 pandemic on CO2 emissions and the economy, finding that the global CO2 reduction was mainly driven by the transportation sector. However, the reductions may be temporary if the economy rebounds as expected.

The impact mechanism of the ETS on CO2 emissions from the service sector: Evidence from Beijing and Shanghai

Yue-Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that ETS has a negative impact on CO2 emissions from the service sector in China, with varying abatement effects across regions and sectors. The main impact mechanism of ETS on CO2 emissions from the service sector during the sample period is carbon emission reduction efficiency.

Drivers of the change in carbon dioxide emissions under the progress of urbanization in 30 provinces in China: A decomposition analysis

Yuzhuo Huang et al.

Summary: This study used the logarithmic mean Divisia index decomposition method to analyze the change in CO2 emissions across 30 provinces in China from 1990 to 2016. The findings showed that the effects of urbanization on CO2 emissions increased over time, with regional differentiation. Energy intensity was the main driver of reduced CO2 emissions, while resident consumption was the primary driver of increased CO2 emissions in all provinces. These results emphasize the importance of promoting environmentally friendly consumption and designing regionally differentiated policies.
