Benchmarking state-of-the-art symbolic regression algorithms

Jan Zegklitz et al.

Summary: Symbolic regression is a powerful method for building predictive models without assuming any model structure. This paper compares the performance of several SR algorithms, including new ones using multiple linear regression and traditional genetic programming algorithms. The results suggest that these algorithms have comparable performance across synthetic and real-world problems, providing basic recommendations for users to choose the algorithm.

Integrating remote sensing and machine learning into environmental monitoring and assessment of land use change

Hong Anh Thi Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method that reduces the time and cost of creating land use maps applicable for environmental protection. Using Phuket as a case study, it was found that although there are sustainable development policies, the results of land use change indicate that urban development is not heading in an environmentally sustainable direction.

Machine learning improves predictions of agricultural nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from intensively managed cropping systems

Debasish Saha et al.

Summary: The accumulation of the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide in the atmosphere, largely due to agricultural intensification, poses challenges for existing models. Research shows that machine learning coupled with cropping systems models can significantly improve predictions of N2O emissions.

Do industrialization, economic growth and globalization processes influence the ecological footprint and healthcare expenditures? Fresh insights based on the STIRPAT model for countries with the highest healthcare expenditures

Bo Yang et al.

Summary: This study examines the impacts of industrialization, economic growth, and globalization on ecological footprint and healthcare expenditures in the top ten countries with the highest healthcare expenditures. Findings suggest that industrialization, healthcare expenditures, and economic growth contribute to increased pollution levels, while globalization and urbanization processes reduce environmental damage. Additionally, there are bidirectional causal relationships between healthcare expenditures, urban population, industrialization, and ecological footprint.

COVID-19 and energy: Influence mechanisms and research methodologies

Lingyue Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the current situation and future development of energy under the influence of COVID-19, identifying research hotspots and proposing future directions. The pandemic has short-term impacts on energy consumption, markets, and air pollution, while potentially having far-reaching effects on renewable energy, climate, and policy. Regression analysis and scenario analysis are commonly used methods, with artificial neural networks being utilized to enhance prediction efficiency for energy demand and price.
