Highly efficient removal of dyes from wastewater using nanocellulose from quinoa husk as a carrier for immobilization of laccase

Shohreh Ariaeenejad et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of nanocellulose from quinoa husks and its utilization as a carrier for immobilizing a model laccase enzyme. The immobilized enzyme demonstrated efficient removal of malachite green and congo red dyes through a synergistic adsorption degradation approach. This immobilized PersiLac1 enzyme showed remarkable improvement in dye removal and exhibited superior reusability and performance in treating complex textile effluents.

Evaluation of bioremediation and detoxification potentiality for papermaking black liquor by a new isolated thermophilic and alkali-tolerant Serratia sp. AXJ-M

Xuejiao An et al.

Summary: The study successfully improved the biodegradation efficiency of lignin by a new isolated thermophilic and alkali-tolerant strain Serratia sp. AXJ-M using PB experimental design combined with RSM, suggesting its potential for bioremediation applications for papermaking black liquor. GC-MS analysis showed a decrease in concentration of low-molecular-weight compounds after biological treatment. Toxicological and genotoxicity studies supported the detoxification by the bacterium of black liquor.

Low-Cost Nanostructured Coating of Anodic Aluminium Oxide Synthesized in Sulphuric Acid as Electrolyte

Florencia A. Bruera et al.

Summary: The anodic oxidation of aluminium is an electrochemical technique that can be used to obtain low-cost nanoporous aluminium oxide films with varied morphology depending on synthesis variables. The best ordering conditions were found to be using two anodization steps in sulphuric acid at 10 degrees C and 0.3 M concentration, as well as at 5 degrees C and 2 M concentration. The pore diameter, interpore distance, and thickness of the oxide film were found to vary proportionally with changes in the anodization voltage.

Membrane Filtration Opportunities for the Treatment of Black Liquor in the Paper and Pulp Industry

Olenka Jibaja Valderrama et al.

Summary: Black liquor, a by-product of the kraft pulping process, requires costly treatment to avoid environmental and financial implications. Nanofiltration is being studied as a promising alternative to recycle cooking chemicals, but the development of pH-stable membranes is crucial for industrial-scale operation. Membrane A shows higher potential for treating black liquor due to its competitive permeate flux and high rejection of organic components and salts.
