6-Gingerol protects against cardiac remodeling by inhibiting the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway

Shu-qing Ma et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that 6-gingerol can protect against pressure overload-induced cardiac remodeling in in vivo models by improving cardiac function and alleviating hypertrophy, fibrosis, inflammation, and dysfunction. In vitro experiments showed that 6-gingerol can block cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cardiac fibroblast activation in response to specific stimuli.

Songorine promotes cardiac mitochondrial biogenesis via Nrf2 induction during sepsis

Yi Li et al.

Summary: Songorine protects cardiac contractive function against endotoxin insult by activating Nrf2, suppressing mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production, and promoting mitochondrial biogenesis, ultimately enhancing cardioprotection.

Neuraminidase 1 is a driver of experimental cardiac hypertrophy

Qian-Qian Chen et al.

Summary: This study identifies NEU1 as a critical driver of cardiac hypertrophy and inhibition of NEU1 opens up a new field of treatment for cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, anti-influenza drugs zanamivir and oseltamivir effectively inhibit mammalian NEU1, suggesting new indications for cardio-protection.
