Percutaneous coronary intervention versus medical therapy for chronic total coronary occlusions: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials

A. van Veelen et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis of 1790 CTO patients found that CTO-PCI did not lead to improvements in survival or MACE at up to 4 years of follow-up, nor did it improve left ventricular function. However, CTO-PCI resulted in less angina and fewer target lesion revascularisations compared to OMT.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of percutaneous coronary intervention for single-vessel coronary artery disease: an economic evaluation of the ORBITA trial

Victoria McCreanor et al.

Summary: The cost-effectiveness of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) compared with placebo in patients with single-vessel coronary artery disease and angina on anti-anginal medication exceeds the threshold used by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence. The estimated Incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) for PCI is £90,218/QALY gained, and the results were robust under sensitivity analyses.

Choice of CTO scores to predict procedural success in clinical practice. A comparison of 4 different CTO PCI scores in a comprehensive national registry including expert and learning CTO operators

Pablo Salinas et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of different chronic total occlusion scores in percutaneous coronary intervention procedures and found that the CASTLE score had slightly better overall performance compared to others, but all scores showed only intermediate accuracy in predicting chronic total occlusion success.
