MoS2-based nanofluids as heat transfer fluid in parabolic trough collector technology

Paloma Martinez-Merino et al.

Summary: Concentrating solar power, as an alternative to conventional polluting energy sources, is being studied extensively. This study proposes the use of nanofluids based on spherical molybdenum disulphide nanoparticles as the heat transfer fluid in parabolic trough solar collectors (PTCs) to improve the thermal efficiency of concentrating solar power plants. Experimental results show that the nanofluids significantly enhance the thermal efficiency and bring additional advantages such as reduced pumping power and elimination of selective coatings on absorber tubes.

Thermodynamic analysis and comparison of different absorption cycles driven by evacuated tube solar collector utilizing hybrid nanofluids

Muhammad Abid et al.

Summary: Hybrid nanofluids are effective in improving heat transfer rates in solar thermal applications. This study compared four different absorption cycles driven by evacuated tube collectors and found that using hybrid nanofluids resulted in higher collector efficiency. The quadruple effect absorption cycle had the best performance, with the lowest exergy destruction rate.

A comparison between flat-plate and evacuated tube solar collectors in terms of energy and exergy analysis by using nanofluid

Mahmoud Eltaweel et al.

Summary: The continuous increase in energy demand poses a challenge for the future, leading to a focus on efficient methods for utilizing renewable sources such as solar energy. Evacuated tube and flat-plate solar collectors are simple and cost-effective for domestic use, and enhancing heat transfer with nanofluids can improve performance, especially at low temperatures. Comparisons in the literature show different behaviors between the two collector types based on working conditions. Studies on the comparison of stationary collectors using nanofluids are scarce, but research in this area can help evaluate energy and exergy efficiencies, showing potential for improvement with Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes/water nanofluid at varying mass flux rates.

The effect of nanoparticle shape on alumina/EG-water (50:50) nanofluids flow within a solar collector: Entropy and exergy investigation

Abdullah K. Alanazi et al.

Summary: In this study, the entropy generation and exergy of a solar collector using nanofluid flow were evaluated. The choice of collector material, shape of nanoparticles, volume fraction, and mass flow rate were found to significantly impact fluid frictional entropy generation, thermal entropy generation, total entropy generation, exergy output, and exergy loss. The use of copper tubes led to lower entropy generation and higher exergy output compared to steel tubes, and an increase in mass flow rate resulted in higher total entropy generation for both materials. Additionally, the addition of nanoparticles was found to reduce thermal entropy generation while increasing fluid frictional entropy generation at higher volume fractions. The inclusion of nanoparticles also intensified both the exergy output and exergy loss.
