β-elemene blocks lipid-induced inflammatory pathways via PPARβ activation in heart failure

Mingyan Shao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that beta-elemene improved heart function in mouse model of heart failure by enhancing fatty acid oxidation-related genes expression and suppressing inflammation. In vitro experiments also showed that beta-elemene reduced inflammation markers and increased expression of fatty acid oxidation-related genes. Molecular docking model predicted an interaction between beta-elemene and PPAR beta protein, further validated by antagonists and siRNA.

Anti-Tumor Drug Discovery Based on Natural Product β-Elemene: Anti-Tumor Mechanisms and Structural Modification

Ziqiang Bai et al.

Summary: Beta-elemene, extracted from Curcuma wenyujin, is a natural product with broad anti-tumor activities. Its main molecular mechanism includes inhibiting tumor growth, inducing apoptosis, enhancing chemoradiotherapy sensitivity, among others. However, its lipophilicity and low bioavailability hinder its application, prompting researchers to seek better beta-elemene-derived anti-tumor drugs through structural modifications.
