Mitochondrial morphodynamics alteration induced by influenza virus infection as a new antiviral strategy

Irene Pila-Castellanos et al.

Summary: Influenza virus infections lead to elongation of mitochondria and reduction of contact sites with endoplasmic reticulum, critical for innate immunity regulation. The novel drug Mito-C counteracts these membrane modifications and boosts the host cell's innate immune response, showing promise for fighting other RNA viruses with similar membrane modifications.

Cardiac-specific loss of mitoNEET expression is linked with age-related heart failure

Takaaki Furihata et al.

Summary: The study revealed the downregulation of a cardiac-specific mitochondrial component in aged mice, leading to heart failure. Mice with cardiac-specific deletion of CISD1 showed cardiac dysfunction after 12 months and developed HF after 16 months. These findings suggest that loss of mitoNEET expression may contribute to age-associated heart failure in older adults.

The two redox states of the human NEET proteins' [2Fe-2S] clusters

Summary: NEET proteins are a unique class of [2Fe-2S] proteins, existing in two redox states. Studies show that the reduced state of human NEET proteins is kinetically inert, contrasting with the reactivity of the oxidized state.
