Preparation and Evaluation of Azelaic Acid Topical Microemulsion Formulation: In Vitro and In Vivo Study

Wan-Hsuan Hung et al.

Summary: Using O/W microemulsions as carriers significantly increased the permeability of azelaic acid, with the experimental formulation showing comparable anti-inflammatory effect with a commercial product and no significant skin irritation. Additionally, the drug-loaded formulation demonstrated thermodynamic and chemical stability after 30 days of storage.

Biological Evaluation of Oil-in-Water Microemulsions as Carriers of Benzothiophene Analogues for Dermal Applications

Ioanna Theochari et al.

Summary: In recent years, researchers have conducted numerous studies on the design and formulation of novel drug delivery systems for dermal or transdermal administration, including the use of biocompatible nanodispersions to encapsulate and deliver bioactive molecules. An O/W biocompatible microemulsion composed of PBS buffer, Tween 80, and triacetin was evaluated for its effectiveness as a drug carrier of DPS-2, a lead compound designed to inhibit BRAF(V600E) oncogenic kinase, showing potential for treating severe skin disorders such as cancer.
