Anticoagulant therapy for splanchnic vein thrombosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Emanuele Valeriani et al.

Summary: The study found that anticoagulant therapy improves SVT recanalization and reduces the risk of thrombosis progression without increasing major bleeding. However, the incidence of recurrent VTE remained substantial in patients receiving anticoagulation, and the effects were consistent across different patient subgroups.

Clinical history of cancer-associated splanchnic vein thrombosis

Emanuele Valeriani et al.

Summary: This study compared the characteristics and outcomes of cancer patients with SVT and usual site VTE, finding that despite some differences in baseline characteristics and anticoagulant treatment, the risk of recurrent thrombosis and bleeding appears to be similar between the two cohorts. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: Anticoagulant therapy shows positive effects on vein recanalization and progression, major bleeding, and overall mortality in cirrhotic patients with SVT, but the incidence of recurrent VTE remains substantial.
