Radio-sensitivity enhancement in HT29 cells through magnetic hyperthermia in combination with targeted nano-carrier of 5-Flourouracil

Parvin Sadat Mirzaghavami et al.

Summary: This study aimed to induce selective radiosensitization in HT29 cancer cells by using folic acid modified magnetic triblock copolymer nanoparticles as carrier of 5-Flourouracil (5-FU) in combination with hyperthermia, which resulted in maximal anti-cancer effects compared to other single or combined treatments. The nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized, and their cytotoxicity, drug loading capacity, and drug release profile were assessed, showing enhanced therapeutic ratio and radiosensitivity induction. Various characterizations demonstrated the potential of using folic acid modified magnetic copolymer nanoparticles with hyperthermia as an efficient approach to enhance radiation effects in cancer cells.

Enhancement of Radio-Thermo-Sensitivity of 5-Iodo-2-Deoxyuridine-Loaded Polymeric-Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles Triggers Apoptosis in U87MG Human Glioblastoma Cancer Cell Line

Samideh Khoei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that SPIONs/PCL-PEG, as a carrier of IUdR, can enhance the cytotoxic effects of radiotherapy and hyperthermia, acting as a radio-thermo-sensitizing agent. The combination of IUdR/MNPs with X-ray radiation and hyperthermia significantly decreased colony formation ability, increased apoptosis, and necrosis, compared to other treatments. Additionally, IUdR/MNPs increased the toxicity of AMF hyperthermia compared to the water bath method.
