Hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media in Italy: a retrospective study. Characteristics of patients and risk factors

S. Voltolini et al.

Summary: This study describes the characteristics of Italian patients experiencing hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media and investigates potential risk factors. Male gender and age over 65 were identified as protective factors, while cardiovascular disease, respiratory allergy, and adverse drug reactions were identified as risk factors for these reactions.

Emerging Causes of Drug-Induced Anaphylaxis: A Review of Anaphylaxis-Associated Reports in the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS)

Roger J. Yu et al.

Summary: Drug-induced anaphylaxis is a well-known adverse drug reaction, with antibiotics, monoclonal antibodies, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and acetaminophen being the top drug classes associated with anaphylaxis. Antibiotics were highly reported for anaphylaxis overall and anaphylaxis followed by death, while an increasing trend was noted for anaphylaxis to monoclonal antibody therapies.

Practice parameters for diagnosing and managing iodinated contrast media hypersensitivity

Maria Jose Torres et al.

Summary: The management of patients with hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media involves recommendations such as skin tests, avoidance of re-exposure, or drug provocation tests. The decision to perform re-exposure or drug provocation test should be based on a risk-benefit analysis. The role of in vitro tests for diagnosis and pretreatment remains controversial in preventing reactions.
