Use of narrow-diameter implants in the posterior segments of the jaws: A retrospective observational study of 2 to 11 years

Andre Assaf et al.

Summary: This retrospective observational study evaluated the success and survival rates of narrow-diameter implants (NDIs) in the posterior region restored with fixed prostheses, and found an overall success rate of 89.37% and a cumulative survival rate of 98.75%. Results showed that NDIs may be considered a reliable option to replace posterior teeth, and that prosthetic design had no significant impact on biological or mechanical complications.

Oral health-related quality of life of patients rehabilitated with fixed and removable implant-supported dental prostheses

Ho-Yan Duong et al.

Summary: Dental implants have become the preferred option for prosthetic rehabilitation, but patient perceptions of oral health-related quality of life do not show overall superiority compared to conventional prosthetics. Patient expectations significantly affect treatment outcomes, and reconstructions supported by implants improve stability and function. However, there are discrepancies between patients' and clinicians' evaluations, especially in esthetic outcomes.

Trace Element-Augmented Titanium Implant With Targeted Angiogenesis and Enhanced Osseointegration in Osteoporotic Rats

Ran Yan et al.

Summary: The deteriorated bone quality in osteoporosis poses challenges for successful implants, emphasizing the need for early osseointegration and long-term antibacterial properties. This study explores the angiogenic effects of bioactive strontium ions and their potential role in promoting osteogenesis. By screening different doses of strontium ions, researchers developed a bioactive titanium surface augmented with zinc and strontium, which exhibited enhanced osteogenic differentiation and antimicrobial properties. The modified titanium implant surfaces showed improved bone formation and bone-implant contact, suggesting the potential of zinc- and strontium-augmented surfaces for osseointegration in osteoporosis.

Summary: Nest-like nanofiber structures were prepared on a titanium surface using the nanobowl template-assisted method combined with alkali etching. The results showed that the nest-like nanofiber structure had better cellular adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation capacity compared to nanotubes. In a beagle alveolar bone implant model, the nest-like nanofiber structure exhibited improved osseointegration.

Gabrielle Alencar Ferreira Silva et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of hydrophilicity on the surface integrity of implants after insertion in low-density artificial bone. It was found that implants with hydrophilic surface treatment resulted in more titanium particle release into the bone bed. Surface damage was observed after insertion, mainly in the apical region of the implants.

Summary: The study focused on the interaction between human periodontal ligament stem cells and two different implant titanium surfaces to evaluate cytotoxicity, cellular adhesion capacity, and improvement in ECM release. Various techniques including microscopic evaluation, viability assays, immunofluorescence, Western blot, and RT-PCR were used to analyze the parameters. Understanding cell/implant interaction is essential for developing more effective surfaces that enhance ECM release and promote osseointegration.
