Update of P2X receptor properties and their pharmacology: IUPHAR Review 30

Peter Illes et al.

Summary: P2X receptors are cationic channels consisting of seven different subunits, with researchers having determined their structure and function. In addition, primitive ligand-gated counterparts related to P2X receptors have been cloned, and various selective antagonists have been discovered.

Citrobacter koseri stimulates dendritic cells to induce IL-33 expression via abundant ATP production

Hideo Kataoka et al.

Summary: The study showed that Citrobacter species C. koseri can worsen allergic symptoms by stimulating dendritic cells to induce IL-33 expression. However, the LPS released by this bacterium can suppress IL-33 expression and attenuate this allergenicity.

Pre-transplant T-cell Clonality An Observational Study of a Biomarker for Prediction of Sepsis in Liver Transplant Recipients

Stephen L. Jones et al.

Summary: This study found that pre-transplant T-cell clonality can predict the occurrence of sepsis after liver transplant, providing a new biomarker for early monitoring and management of sepsis. Adequate treatment for sepsis can reduce mortality after liver transplant.

The Pannexin 1/Purinergic Receptor P2X4 Pathway Controls the Secretion of MicroRNA-Containing Exosomes by HCV-Infected Hepatocytes

Ok-Kyung Kim et al.

Summary: HCV infection induces the release of exosomes and exosomal miRNAs through the caspase-3/Panx1/P2X4 pathway in hepatocytes. Secretions of exosomes and miRNAs are dependent on the caspase 3/Panx1/P2X4 pathway during HCV infection. Possible therapeutic interventions using Panx1 suppression for liver disease development mediated by exosomes from HCV-infected hepatocytes are suggested.

Reduced pannexin 1-IL-33 axis function in donor livers increases risk of MRSA infection in liver transplant recipients

Hao Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that genetic predisposition to reduced PANX1 function increases the risk of MRSA infection in liver transplantation patients. Panx1 deficiency results in increased MRSA-induced liver injury and animal death. Decreased PANX1 expression leads to reduced ATP release from hepatocytes and impairs hepatic host innate immune response mediated by IL-33.
