Functional-selected LiF-intercalated-graphene enabling ultra-stable lithium sulfur battery

Haoliang Lu et al.

Summary: By utilizing a functionally selective solid electrolyte interphase as an anodic protection layer, the settlement of uneven lithium electrodeposits in lithium sulfur batteries can be effectively avoided. The novel LiF-intercalated-graphene SEI exhibits a high elastic modulus, mechanical strength, and repulsive capability towards polysulfides, leading to the effective protection of lithium anodes and remarkable electrochemical performance in Li-S batteries.

Structural origin of the high-voltage instability of lithium cobalt oxide

Jianyuan Li et al.

Summary: Layered lithium cobalt oxide is a successful commercial cathode material in lithium-ion batteries, but its structural instability at high potentials poses challenges. By using advanced electron diffraction methods and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, researchers have identified that the curvature of cobalt oxide layers near the surface plays a crucial role in determining the structural stability and electrochemical performance of the material. This atomistic understanding of structure-performance relationships provides valuable insights for designing new cathode materials with superior stability at high voltages.

Cyano-reinforced in-situ polymer electrolyte enabling long-life cycling for high-voltage lithium metal batteries

Zhaolin Lv et al.

Summary: By in-situ copolymerization of 2-cyanoethyl acrylate and poly (ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate, a cyano-reinforced SSPE is proposed in this study to improve the cyclability and stability of high-voltage LMBs. This design strategy forms a stable cathode electrolyte interphase with LiCoO2, effectively suppressing the decomposition of EO segments and inhibiting the crystallization of SSPE, resulting in excellent capacity retention of LiCoO2/Li-based batteries.

In-situ encapsulating flame-retardant phosphate into robust polymer matrix for safe and stable lithium metal batteries

Shuang-Jie Tan et al.

Summary: A non-flammable solid-liquid hybrid electrolyte (SLHE) was developed by encapsulating a flame-retardant liquid phosphate into a robust solid polycarbonate matrix. This SLHE features high Li+ conductivity, Young's modulus, Li+ transference number, and a wide electrochemical window, effectively suppressing dendrites and unfavorable side reactions. The use of non-flammable SLHE improves safety and stability in Li-metal batteries.

Dielectric studies and AC conductivity of PVDF-HFP: LiBF4: EC plasticized polymer electrolytes

M. Sangeetha et al.

Summary: Solid polymer electrolytes composed of PVDF-HFP polymer, LiBF4 salt and EC plasticizer were synthesized using the solution cast technique. The effect of EC plasticizer on PVDF-HFP - LiBF4 polymer salt electrolyte was studied, showing different dielectric constants, dielectric losses, and AC conductivities at different frequencies. The highest AC conductivity of 3.51 x 10(-3)SCm(-1) was achieved with a 40wt ratio of EC as a plasticizer in the (PVDF-HFP: LiBF4: EC) polymer-salt plasticized electrolyte.
