Bismuth nanorods confined in hollow carbon structures for high performance sodium- and potassium-ion batteries

Hongli Long et al.

Summary: The study presents a unique structure design of bismuth nanorods confined in hollow N, S-codoped carbon nanotubes to improve the performance of sodium-ion batteries and potassium-ion batteries. The designed structure effectively suppresses particle pulverization and solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) growth, resulting in outstanding rate capability and high energy density.

A Low-Strain Phosphate Cathode for High-Rate and Ultralong Cycle-Life Potassium-Ion Batteries

Jiaying Liao et al.

Summary: A controllable synthesis method for a novel low-strain phosphate material K-3(VO)(HV2O3)(PO4)(2)(HPO4) (referred to as KVP) nanoruler was introduced as an efficient cathode for PIBs, demonstrating excellent cycling performance, rate capability, and capacity retention. The outstanding potassium storage capability of KVP nanoruler cathode is attributed to its low-strain K+ uptake/removal mechanism, inherent semiconductor characteristic, and small K+ migration energy barrier.

Fast and stable K-ion storage enabled by synergistic interlayer and pore-structure engineering

Deping Li et al.

Summary: A simple method for synthesizing hierarchically porous carbon with tuned interlayers has been proposed, delivering excellent K-ion storage performance. The correlation between interlayer distance and K-ion diffusion kinetics has been revealed, along with the synergistic effect of engineered pore structure. The study may deepen the fundamental understandings of carbon-based PIBs and related energy storage devices.

Improvement in potassium ion batteries electrodes: Recent developments and efficient approaches

Syed Musab Ahmed et al.

Summary: The demand for high-grid energy storage systems has led to research on novel battery technologies, with potassium ion batteries (PIBs) attracting attention due to the vast availability of potassium resources and their encouraging intercalation chemistries. Efficient approaches to manufacture electrode substances for K+ based batteries are crucial for intercalating large potassium ions with desirable characteristics such as voltage, kinetics, charge/discharge capacity, and cost. This study contributes to the development of anode and cathode materials for PIBs, providing insights into synthesis, structure, electrochemical performance, and K-storage mechanisms.
