Co/Co3O4-embedded N-doped hollow carbon composite derived from a bimetallic MOF/ZnO Core-shell template as a sulfur host for Li-S batteries

Youngmoo Jeon et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized N-doped hollow carbon composite embedded with well-dispersed Co/Co3O4 nanoparticles via the carbonization of a Zn/Co bimetallic metal-organic frameworks/ZnO nanospheres core-shell structure. The sulfur-infiltrated Co/Co3O4-NHC cathode exhibited excellent rate performance and stability, retaining 87.8% of specific capacity after 250 cycles, showing promise for high-performance Li-S batteries. This work provides insights on designing sulfur host materials for next-generation energy storage technology.

Sulfur vacancies in Co9S8-x/N-doped graphene enhancing the electrochemical kinetics for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries

Hao-Jie Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that enhancing the adsorption ability for polysulfide anions by introducing sulfur vacancies in a high-sulfur-loading cathode can improve the kinetics of the polysulfide conversion process, leading to high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries. The sulfur vacancies in Co9S8-x/N-G effectively improve the electrode process kinetics for the catalytic conversion of polysulfides, resulting in a high areal capacity and long-term cycling stability. These results suggest that utilizing sulfur vacancies could be an effective approach for achieving high-energy lithium-sulfur batteries.
