Further enhancement of the particle shifting technique: Towards better volume conservation and particle distribution in SPH simulations of violent free-surface flows

Hong-Guan Lyu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an enhanced version of Weakly-Compressible SPH simulation to address the non-conservation of total fluid volume issue caused by accumulating errors on potential energy. By introducing Corrective Cohesion Force (CCF) and improving particle distribution near the free-surface, the new Particle Shifting Technique (PST) shows satisfactory performance in maintaining conservation of volume and achieving uniform particle distribution.

On removing the numerical instability induced by negative pressures in SPH simulations of typical fluid-structure interaction problems in ocean engineering

Hong-Guan Lyu et al.

Summary: This paper emphasizes the importance of removing Tensile Instability (TI) induced by negative pressures in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations, and proposes modifications for Tensile Instability Control (TIC) and Particle Shifting Technique (PST) to simulate Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) phenomena. Different combinations of PST and TIC have varying results, with both methods being preferable for SPH simulations characterized by extremely strong negative pressures. Special modifications are needed for problems with a convex-shaped structure penetrating a free-surface in order to obtain accurate SPH results.

Study on the wedge penetrating fluid interfaces characterized by different density-ratios: Numerical investigations with a multi-phase SPH model

Hong-Guan Lyu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates water entry problems of a wedge with different density ratios using multi-phase Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations. The accuracy and stability of the SPH model is validated through simulations of classical water entry processes, and the mechanisms of cavity behaviors for different density-ratios are discussed. The study demonstrates that cavity evolutions and motion characteristics of the wedge during penetrating are significantly affected by density-ratios, and suggests that the presented multi-phase SPH model with Adaptive Particle Refinement (APR) can serve as a reliable numerical tool for solving problems involving complex fluid interfaces.

An efficient localized meshless technique for approximating nonlinear sinh-Gordon equation arising in surface theory

O. Nikan et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an efficient localized meshless technique for computing the solution of the nonlinear sinhGordon equation, which is stable and second-order convergent with respect to the time variable. The method reduces computational cost compared to global collocation techniques and exhibits high accuracy in numerical results and comparisons.
