Local FRP reinforcement of existing timber beams

Marco Corradi et al.

Summary: Experimental research has shown that it is possible to increase the bending capacity of wood beams by locally applying FRP sheets to areas with defects. This paper demonstrates that the bending capacity of defective timber beams can be partially restored using the reinforcement method proposed.

Performance of timber girders with end-notch: Experimental and numerical investigation

Satheeskumar Navaratnam et al.

Summary: The study conducted experimental tests on timber bridges built during the colonial times in Australia and found that increasing notch depth significantly reduced the load carrying capacity of rectangular timber girders, while the corresponding circular timber girders had slightly lower reduction. In addition, changing the notch angle resulted in different degrees of increase in load carrying capacity for rectangular and circular girders.

Finite element modelling of timber infilled steel tubular short columns under axial compression

Satheeskumar Navaratnam et al.

Summary: The research investigates the structural behavior and design guidelines for timber infilled steel tubular columns (TIST), revealing that TIST columns can be on par with concrete infilled steel tubular (CIST) columns with potential maximum strength and ductility enhancement of 60% and 65% respectively. The study also verifies suitable design formulations for TIST columns based on parametric analyses results, which can be extended from CIST columns.

Finite element modelling of shear critical glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforced concrete beams

Md Shah Alam et al.

Summary: This paper presents a 3D nonlinear finite element analysis model for shear critical GFRP reinforced concrete beams. The model predicts the behavior of the beams with a reasonable degree of accuracy by modeling the contact between concrete and GFRP bars.
