The study found that adding CeO2 to PLA can significantly improve its anti-UV function and enhance the material's mechanical properties, providing a solution for outdoor UV protection of skin diseases.
Polylactic acid (PLA) has been widely used in medical field because of its good biocompatibility, easy processing, and complete biodegradation. However, PLA cannot be applied in the UV protection of skin diseases, for its limited ultraviolet (UV) shielding ability. To find a way to improve the anti-UV function of PLA has great significance. This study found that Cerium oxide (CeO2) has a strong UV barrier and absorption effect in PLA. When the content of CeO2 in PLA was 2 wt%, the UV transmittance was down to 0.47%, the tensile strength was 60.63 MPa, and the elongation at break of PLA was 4.25%. Compared to pure PLA, the UV transmittance of which decreased by 99.33%, the tensile strength increased by 10%, and the elongation at break increased by 199.3%. The FTIR, DMA and morphological properties of PLA were well investigated. This study provided a solution for outdoor UV protection of skin disease.
