A comparative study on surface/interface mechanism and antibacterial properties of different hybrid materials prepared with essential oils active ingredients and palygorskite

Summary: Six active ingredients of essential oils were chosen to prepare organic/inorganic antibacterial hybrid materials based on natural palygorskite by mechanical grinding. The stability of hybrid materials was studied using various analyses, and it was found that hydrogen bonding played a key role in their formation. The antibacterial activity and bioavailability of the hybrid materials were found to be related to their molecular structures and hydrophilicity.

Preparation and characterization of active oxidized starch films containing licorice residue extracts and its potential against methicillin-resistant S. aureus

Summary: Antibacterial and antioxidant packaging films were developed by incorporating licorice residue extracts (LREs) into oxidized starch (OS) films. The bioactive fraction (BF) extracted from LREs showed potent antibacterial effects against MRSA and enhanced the physicochemical properties of the films. The films with higher BF concentrations exhibited increased antibacterial and antioxidant activities but also decreased tensile strength and increased elongation at break.
