Machine learning-assisted discovery of strong and conductive Cu alloys: Data mining from discarded experiments and physical features

Qingkun Zhao et al.

Summary: An innovative method based on machine learning was proposed to design high-performance copper alloys, addressing the limitations of traditional alloy design methods in terms of cost and time efficiency. The method successfully discovered high-performance copper alloys, demonstrating great potential for developing advanced materials.

Effect of transition-elements substitution on mechanical properties and electronic structures of B2-AlCu compounds

Fenger Sun et al.

Summary: First-principles calculations were performed to predict the effect of transition-element substitution on mechanical properties and electronic structures of B2-AlCu compounds. The results showed that Zn, Cd, La, and Hg are preferred to replace the Al atom, while other transition elements are preferred to replace the Cu atom. Among mechanically stable AlCu-TM compounds, resistance to axial deformation was greater than shear deformation.

Effect of Co addition on hardness and electrical conductivity of Cu-Si alloys

Chenhui Lei et al.

Summary: In this study, cobalt was introduced into copper-silicon alloys to enhance both the mechanical and electrical properties, resulting in improved hardness and conductivity compared to cobalt-free alloys. The formation of CoSi nanoprecipitates pins dislocation motion, prevents recrystallization, and reduces silicon solute concentration in the copper matrix, ultimately leading to better performance of the cobalt-containing alloy.

CoTi precipitates: The key to high strength, high conductivity and good softening resistance in Cu-Co-Ti alloy

Huiya Yang et al.

Summary: A novel Cu-Co-Ti alloy with high strength, high conductivity, and excellent softening temperature was fabricated via solid solution, cold rolling, and aging treatment. The strengthening, conductive, and anti-softening mechanisms of the alloy were studied, revealing that solid solution scattering and precipitation strengthening were dominant mechanisms affecting electrical and mechanical properties, while the high softening temperature was mainly due to the restricted coarsening of precipitates by the diffusion rate of Co in the Cu matrix.

Enhanced electrical conductivity and mechanical properties in thermally stable fine-grained copper wire

Qingzhong Mao et al.

Summary: Strength and electrical conductivity are generally mutually exclusive properties in copper wires, but copper wires manufactured using rotary swaging overcome this tradeoff. By directionally optimizing the microstructure, the copper wire exhibits high strength, high electrical conductivity, and thermal stability simultaneously.
