Microinjection of the BDNF receptor antagonist ANA-12 into the nucleus accumbens and medial-prefrontal cortex attenuates morphine-induced reward memory, and alterations of BDNF levels and apoptotic cells in rats

Hassan Jorjani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of the BDNF receptor antagonist ANA-12 on morphine-induced CPP in the NAc and mPFC of rats. The results showed that ANA-12 attenuated the acquisition and expression of morphine-induced CPP, as well as decreased BDNF levels and apoptotic neurons in the NAc during the acquisition phase. Additionally, ANA-12 facilitated extinction but had no effect on reinstatement of morphine CPP, and decreased BDNF levels and apoptotic neurons in the mPFC during the extinction phase. These findings suggest that blocking TrkB with ANA-12 may have therapeutic effects on morphine-associated reward memory and neuronal death in the NAc and mPFC.
