Role of natriuretic peptides in the cardiovascular-adipose communication: a tale of two organs

Natalia Lucia Rukavina Mikusic et al.

Summary: Natriuretic peptides play a crucial role in cardiovascular function, energy metabolism, lipid metabolism, and insulin sensitivity. Dysfunction in the natriuretic peptide system may contribute to the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cardiometabolic complications, although the causal relationship is not fully understood. Targeting the natriuretic peptide pathway could potentially improve metabolic health in obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, and alterations in the natriuretic peptide system could be a linking mechanism between adipose tissue dysfunction and cardiovascular disease.

Establishing Transcription Profile of Psoriasiform Cutaneous In Vitro using HaCaT Cells Stimulated with Combination of Cytokines

Huaping Zheng et al.

Summary: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by abnormal proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes, and infiltration of inflammatory cells. By inducing inflammation in HaCaT cells using a M5 combination, researchers observed increased levels of antimicrobial peptides, chemokines, and cytokines, as well as down regulation of keratinocyte differentiation markers.

C-Type Natriuretic Peptide Plays an Anti-Inflammatory Role in Rat Epididymitis Induced by UPEC

Chunlei Mei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that CNP can play a therapeutic role in acute epididymitis by reducing inflammatory damage and bacterial activity, suppressing the expression of pro-inflammatory factors, and decreasing macrophage invasion. This finding opens up new possibilities for using CNP as a potential treatment for epididymitis.

Molecular Signaling Mechanisms and Function of Natriuretic Peptide Receptor-A in the Pathophysiology of Cardiovascular Homeostasis

Kailash N. Pandey

Summary: The discovery of atrial, brain, and C-type natriuretic peptides (ANP, BNP, and CNP) and their receptors, as well as the involvement of guanylyl cyclase/natriuretic peptide receptor-A (GC-A/NPRA) in their regulatory actions, has advanced our understanding of hypertension and cardiovascular homeostasis control. ANP and BNP act as potent hypotensive hormones, reducing blood pressure and protecting against cardiovascular diseases through cGMP production. The therapeutic potential of natriuretic peptides (NPs) and their receptors in treating and preventing cardiovascular diseases has yet to be fully explored through further research.

Antibiofilm Peptides: Relevant Preclinical Animal Infection Models and Translational Potential

Gislaine G. O. S. Silveira et al.

Summary: Biofilm-forming bacteria are highly resistant to antibiotics and represent a significant portion of human infections. Antimicrobial peptides show promising efficacy against biofilms, with murine models being useful for assessing their in vivo effectiveness. Challenges remain in translating ABPs to clinical use, but murine biofilm models offer valuable insights into their efficacy.
