Physical Activity Before, During, and After Chemotherapy for High-Risk Breast Cancer: Relationships With Survival

Rikki A. Cannioto et al.

Summary: This study suggests that breast cancer patients who meet the minimum physical activity guidelines both before diagnosis and after treatment have significantly reduced risks of recurrence and mortality. When considering activity from all time points, including during treatment, lower levels of regular physical activity were associated with similar overall survival benefits as meeting and exceeding the guidelines.

Carbohydrate Intake, Glycemic Index, and Glycemic Load and the Risk of Breast Cancer among Iranian Women

Zeinab Alboghobeish et al.

Summary: The limited number of studies conducted on the association between carbohydrate intake, glycemic index (GI), glycemic load (GL), and breast cancer (BC) risk among Middle Eastern women. The study aimed to examine whether intake of carbohydrates, GI, and GL would lead to an increased risk of BC among Iranian women. The results showed that high GI and GL may play a significant role in the risk of BC, particularly among postmenopausal women.

Dissecting the molecular pathways involved in the effects of physical activity on breast cancers cells: A narrative review

Francesca Maria Orlandella et al.

Summary: Obesity and sedentary lifestyle are modifiable factors strongly linked to breast cancer risk worldwide. A well-designed physical activity program can positively impact cellular signaling pathways and molecular markers in breast cancer cells, potentially influencing tumor growth and survival rates. Regular exercise has been shown to affect multiple cancer hallmarks and may influence breast cancer development and recurrence through changes in circulating hormones and biological mechanisms.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
