Coronary CT Angiography with Photon-counting CT: First-In-Human Results

Salim A. Si-Mohamed et al.

Summary: The study compared the quality of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) scans obtained with a photon-counting CT (PCCT) system and an energy-integrating dual-layer CT (DLCT) system. The results showed that PCCT provided improved image quality and diagnostic confidence compared to DLCT.

Image-Quality Assessment of Polyenergetic and Virtual Monoenergetic Reconstructions of Unenhanced CT Scans of the Head: Initial Experiences with the First Photon-Counting CT Approved for Clinical Use

Arwed Elias Michael et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the image quality of different reconstruction methods in unenhanced PCCTs of the head. The results showed that the polyenergetic reconstruction was superior to virtual monoenergetic reconstructions in terms of signal-to-noise ratio and contrast-to-noise ratio. Although certain virtual monoenergetic reconstructions performed better in terms of artifacts, there is still room for improvement. This study is important for further improving the image quality of PCCT.

High-Pitch Photon-Counting Detector Computed Tomography Angiography of the Aorta Intraindividual Comparison to Energy-Integrating Detector Computed Tomography at Equal Radiation Dose

Andre Euler et al.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the objective and subjective image quality of high-pitch PCD-CT and conventional EID-CT of the aorta at the same radiation dose. The results showed that high-pitch PCD-CT with VMI at 40 and 45 keV had significantly higher CNR compared to EID-CT with ATVS at matched radiation dose. The CNR gain of PCD-CT was more pronounced in overweight patients. A trade-off between objective and subjective image quality was found with VMI at 45 to 50 keV.

Comparative study of the image quality of twin beam dual energy and single energy carotid CT angiography

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: This study compared the image quality of low keV virtual monochromatic images (VMIs) from twin-beam dual energy (TBDE) mode to that from single energy (SE) mode in carotid computed tomography angiography (CTA). The results suggest that TBDE technique with low keV VMI reconstruction provides better image quality than low tube voltage scan in the SE mode.

Assessment of hepatic steatosis based on virtual non-contrast computed tomography: Initial experiences with a photon counting scanner approved for clinical use

Julius Henning Niehoff et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of virtual non-contrast images acquired with the first clinical photon counting CT scanner for the assessment of hepatic steatosis. The results showed that the spectral datasets from the PCCT scanner allowed reliable reconstruction of VNC images for accurate evaluation of hepatic steatosis. Adjusting the cut-off values improved the performance of the CT indices, offering excellent sensitivity and specificity.
