A Novel Subtraction Method to Reduce Metal Artifacts of Cerebral Aneurysm Embolism Coils

Hanpei Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated a new subtraction method (S-MAR) to effectively remove metal artifacts caused by coils after endovascular embolotherapy of intracranial aneurysms. The method combines metal artifact reduction (MAR), virtual monochromatic imaging (VMI), and subtraction CT angiography (CTA). The results showed that the S-MAR method significantly reduced metal coil artifacts and improved vessel visualization adjacent to the coils.

Impact of Different Metal Artifact Reduction Techniques on Attenuation Correction of Normal Organs in 18F-FDG-PET/CT

Janna Morawitz et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of different metal artifact reduction algorithms on normal organs in patients with metal implants. The results showed that these algorithms do not alter the data information of normal organs not affected by artifacts.

CT in Patients With External Fixation for Complex Lower Extremity Fractures: Impact of Iterative Metal Artifact Reduction Techniques on Metal Artifact Burden and Subjective Quality

Andreas Stefan Brendlin et al.

Summary: The study compared different iMAR presets for CT examinations in patients with external fixators, finding that iMAR(hip) and iMAR(extremity) achieved the greatest reduction in metal artifact burden and highest subjective image quality, although they introduced new reconstruction artifacts.

Detectability of Head and Neck Cancer via New Computed Tomography Reconstruction Tools including Iterative Reconstruction and Metal Artifact Reduction

Daniel Troeltzsch et al.

Summary: State-of-the-art CT technology, including IR and MAR, has shown significant benefits for the detection of primary and recurrent head and neck cancer. The use of iterative reconstruction algorithms and metal artifact reduction techniques improves diagnostic quality, particularly in detecting recurrent tumors.

Streak Metal Artifact Reduction Technique in Cone Beam Computed Tomography Images after Endovascular Neurosurgery

Takafumi Otsuka et al.

Summary: The use of SMART technique in noncontrast CBCT images after endovascular neurosurgery significantly improved visibility of cistern and brain surface, and reduced metal artifacts in adjacent slices without metal. The size and irregular shape of metal, as well as presence of infratentorial lesions, were negatively correlated with improved visibility.
