A systematic experimental and modeling study of water adsorption/ desorption behavior in organic-rich shale with different particle sizes

Wei Dang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the isotherms, hysteresis, thermodynamics, and kinetics of water adsorption/desorption in organic-rich shale. Different particle sizes were used to measure water adsorption and desorption, and thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were extracted and discussed in relation to pore structure, temperature, relative pressure, and particle size. Various models were employed to interpret the data and provide a comprehensive understanding of the behavior of water-shale adsorption/desorption.

Pore structure typing and fractal characteristics of lacustrine shale from Kongdian Formation in East China

Binyu Ma et al.

Summary: Nine core samples from the lacustrine Kongdian Formation in the Cangdong Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, China, were analyzed for their geochemistry and pore structure characteristics using various tests. The samples were divided into two groups based on hysteresis loops and pore structure parameters. The pore-throats of the samples were classified into four categories based on their Df-MIP values, and differences in D-f between different tests were attributed to sample sizes and pore types. Additionally, a positive relationship was found between D-f-(LN)P-C and various pore parameters in LNP tests.

Effect of adsorbed moisture on the pore size distribution of marine-continental transitional shales: Insights from lithofacies differences and clay swelling

Pei Li et al.

Summary: The distribution of pore water in gas shale reservoirs has a significant impact on gas content and resource evaluation. This study found that adsorbed moisture in transitional clay-rich shales can be divided into different types of water in micro- and non-micropores. Additionally, factors such as thermal maturity, total organic carbon, clay, and carbonate are correlated with adsorbed moisture and pore structure.

Shale Gas Exploration and Development in China: Current Status, Geological Challenges, and Future Directions

Chuanxiang Sun et al.

Summary: China has achieved significant success in shale gas exploration and production, with a focus on developing resources in the Wufeng and Longmaxi Formations in the Sichuan Basin. Challenges remain in tapping into the vast shale gas resources across different formations. Recommendations have been made for improving technology, seeking exploration breakthroughs, and conducting preliminary studies to guide future development efforts.
