Influence of solution electrical conductivity and ionic composition on the performance of a gas-liquid pulsed spark discharge reactor for water treatment

Chase Nau-Hix et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of solution electrical conductivity and ion composition on spark discharges and the removal of PFOA and Rhodamine B dye using point-point discharge in argon gas. It was found that the removal of PFOA increased with conductivity, while the removal of Rhodamine B dye depended on both salt type and solution electrical conductivity.

Summary: This paper provides a review of cold plasma setups and the processes involved in generating active species. The focus is on the interaction between cold plasmas and materials used in medical applications, highlighting the significant impact on the surface properties of biomaterials. The elemental processes responsible for changes in physio-chemical properties of surfaces when exposed to plasma are described, with examples of ongoing research given to illustrate the current state-of-the-art at a conceptual level.

Degradation of diatrizoate in a pin-to-liquid plasma reactor, its transformation products and their residual toxicity

Elena Corella Puertas et al.

Summary: Diatrizoate, a persistent iodinated contrast medium, has been detected in wastewaters globally. Research on alternative treatment technologies is needed due to the inadequacy of conventional wastewater treatment methods in removing Diatrizoate. A compact non-thermal plasma-liquid reactor was used to successfully degrade Diatrizoate in aqueous solutions, with oxygen plasma showing better performance than air plasma.

Structural and Optical Sensing Properties of Nonthermal Atmospheric Plasma-Synthesized Polyethylene Glycol-Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles

Linh Nhat Nguyen et al.

Summary: Polyethylene glycol-functionalized gold nanoparticles were prepared by a plasma-assisted method without additional reducing chemicals. The gold precursor transformed into Au@PEG NPs colloid that exhibited surface plasma resonance at 530 nm. The rapid, low-cost, and environmentally friendly method will facilitate the application of plasma-synthesized nanomaterials in sensors.

Synthesis of Cerium Dioxide Nanoparticles by Gas/Liquid Pulsed Discharge Plasma in a Slug Flow Reactor

Wanying Zhu et al.

Summary: A novel synthesis method for CeO2 nanoparticles using atmospheric-pressure pulsed discharge plasma in a slug flow system was proposed, providing an efficient and continuous reaction at room temperature. The use of cerium nitrate and starch as stabilizers helped to prevent aggregation of nanoparticles. Characterization of the products using TEM and UV-vis spectroscopy revealed an increase in quantity and size of CeO2 nanoparticles.

Pulsed Discharge Plasma in High-Pressure Environment for Water Pollutant Degradation and Nanoparticle Synthesis

Wahyu Diono et al.

Summary: The experiment demonstrated the use of high-voltage discharge plasma for water pollutant decomposition and nanoparticle synthesis in a high-pressure argon gas environment. Various factors were found to have a significant impact on the degradation reactions of organic compounds, and carbon solid materials, titanium dioxide, and titanium carbide nanoparticles were formed under high-pressure conditions. The process shows promise for advanced organic compound decomposition and metal-based nanoparticle synthesis technologies.
