Plastic energy-based analytical approach to predict the mechanical response of two-phase materials with application to dual-phase steels

Sudeep K. Sahoo et al.

Summary: The study focused on the strain hardening behavior of a composite material composed of two phases with perfect disorder and isotropic behavior under axisymmetric tension. The approach utilized the strain hardening behavior of the two constituent phases and their relationship in plastic energy. Results from case studies on dual-phase steel alloys and iron-silver composite metal demonstrated that the equal-power approach accurately reproduced the strain hardening behavior and strain partitioning between the two phases in agreement with experimental data.

Phase evolution in two-phase alloys during severe plastic deformation

Nirab Pant et al.

Summary: This study investigates phase evolution in FCC metals with strongly interacting alloy components during severe plastic deformation through molecular dynamics simulations. Key findings include nucleation and growth of precipitates, dissolution of precipitates, a direct relationship between effective temperature and shear modulus, and the importance of cluster agglomeration during precipitate growth. The results are compared to a modified effective temperature model, providing insights into the atomic processes and their implications for inhomogeneous systems.

A Review: Microstructural and Phase Evolution in Alloys during Extended Plastic Deformation

P. Bellon et al.

Summary: Materials undergoing plastic deformation during service and processing often exhibit two distinctive evolution regimes involving kinetic roughening of interfaces at low strains and forced atomic mixing leading to enhanced solubility at high strains and temperatures. Distinguishing between these two regimes provides a convenient framework for rationalizing and analyzing recent experiments and simulations in the field.
