Photoacoustic Carbon Nanotubes Embedded Silk Scaffolds for Neural Stimulation and Regeneration

Nan Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a generalized strategy to integrate photoacoustic neural stimulation into hydrogel scaffolds using a nano-composite hydrogel approach. The photoacoustic functional scaffolds enable non-genetic activation of neurons with high spatial precision, promoting neuron regeneration and neurite outgrowth. This provides a new method for nonpharmacological neural regeneration.

Thin films of functionalized carbon nanotubes support long-term maintenance and cardio-neuronal differentiation of canine induced pluripotent stem cells

Tanmay Mondal et al.

Summary: The study proposes thin films of functionalized carbon nanotubes as an alternative for feeder-free in vitro culture of canine induced pluripotent stem cells (ciPSCs) and demonstrates that these films can maintain pluripotency and induce differentiation towards cardiac and neuronal lineages.

Pulmonary toxicity, cytotoxicity, and genotoxicity of submicron-diameter carbon fibers with different diameters and lengths

Katsuhide Fujita et al.

Summary: This study investigated the toxicity of submicron-diameter carbon fibers (SCFs) with different diameters and lengths on the lungs and cells. The results showed that the diameter and length of SCFs were associated with their pulmonary toxicity and cytotoxicity. Additionally, the SCFs did not induce genotoxicity. These findings provide new evidence for evaluating the potential toxicity of SCFs with different manufacturing processes or physicochemical properties.

Sympathetic Neurons Regulate Cardiomyocyte Maturation in Culture

William J. Kowalski et al.

Summary: Embryos without autonomic innervation experience sudden cardiac death. This study demonstrates the significant and complex role of sympathetic neurons in regulating cardiomyocyte development, including up-regulation of maturation-related genes, increased sarcomere organization and gap junctions, and enhanced transient amplitudes.

ERRγ enhances cardiac maturation with T-tubule formation in human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes

Kenji Miki et al.

Summary: The study reveals that an estrogen-related receptor gamma (ERR gamma) agonist and an S-phase kinase-associated protein 2 inhibitor enhance the maturation of cardiomyocytes (CMs) derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) by promoting larger cell size, longer sarcomere length, the presence of transverse tubules, and improved metabolic, contractile, and electrical properties.
