Characterization of polyamine oxidase genes in cucumber and roles of CsPAO3 in response to salt stress

Jianqiang Wu et al.

Summary: This study identified four PAO genes in cucumber and found that they play important roles in plant development and stress responses. CsPAO1 and CsPAO3 are mainly located in the cell membrane or nucleus, while CsPAO2 and CsPAO4 are likely localized in peroxisome. CsPAO2-4 responded to NaCl stress earlier in both root and leaf.

Exogenously applied Spd and Spm enhance drought tolerance in tea plants by increasing fatty acid desaturation and plasma membrane H+-ATPase activity

Chang Na et al.

Summary: Exogenous application of 0.2 mM Spd or Spm can improve membrane stability and alleviate drought-induced damage in tea plants. These polyamines enhance PM H+-ATPase activity and fatty acid unsaturation, thereby enhancing tea plant drought tolerance.

Exogenous spermidine enhances the photosynthesis and ultrastructure of lettuce seedlings under high-temperature stress

Xiaoyu Yang et al.

Summary: Exogenous spermidine application can increase chlorophyll content in lettuce, reduce chlorophyll synthesis inhibition, and protect chloroplasts from oxidative damage. It also improves net photosynthetic rate, reduces mitochondrial damage, and promotes lettuce growth in high-temperature environments.

Effect of heat stress on oxidative damage and antioxidant defense system in white clover (Trifolium repens L.)

Hsiang-Lin Liu et al.

Summary: This study revealed that white clover reduces heat-induced oxidative damage through an increased antioxidant defense system, with 40 degrees Celsius providing the greatest protection for both seedlings and adult plants. Key antioxidant enzymes play a crucial role in heat stress tolerance in white clover.

Exogenous spermidine modifies nutritional and bioactive constituents of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) florets under heat stress

Jacinta Collado-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The combination of heat stress and exogenous spermidine led to an increase in antioxidant activity, total phenolic compounds, sugars, proteins, and mineral components in cauliflower florets. Foliar application of spermidine at high temperature increased the contents of inositol, fructose, and sucrose, while also resulting in the accumulation of sulphate, phosphate, and nitrate.

Exogenous putrescine activates the arginine-polyamine pathway and inhibits the decomposition of endogenous polyamine in Anthurium andraeanum under chilling stress

Xiangli Sun et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that exogenous putrescine (Put) supplementation can enhance the synthesis of endogenous arginine (Arg) and polyamines (PAs), while reducing the decomposition rate of PAs in Anthurium andraeanum seedlings under chilling stress. On the other hand, supplementation of D-arginine (D-Arg) and/or difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) inhibited the synthesis of endogenous Arg and its conversion to Put, accelerating the decomposition of PAs. Transcriptional analysis confirmed the differential expression of genes involved in these pathways, supporting the observed physiological effects.
