Protein complex nanoparticles reinforced with industrial hemp essential oil: Characterization and application for shelf-life extension of Rainbow trout fillets

Nava Majidiyan et al.

Summary: In this study, essential oil of industrial hemp was reinforced in a complex of whey protein nanofibrils and mung bean protein nanoparticles, creating a novel nano-carrier. The results showed that the reinforced nano-carrier effectively inhibited bacterial growth and extended the shelf life of fish products. Therefore, it can be suggested as a natural preservative for coating fishes.

Microwave-assisted extraction of phenolic compounds fromCannabis sativaL.: optimization and kinetics study

Nikolina Matesic et al.

Summary: RSM and ANN were compared for predicting the physical and chemical properties of industrial hemp extracts, with ANN showing better performance. The optimal extraction conditions were identified as L/S = 30 mL/g, v/v = 25%, t = 25 min, T = 45°C, and P = 600 W. Kinetic modeling revealed that the extraction rate stabilized after approximately 15 min under these conditions.

Cannabigerol Is a Potential Therapeutic Agent in a Novel Combined Therapy for Glioblastoma

Tamara T. Lah et al.

Summary: Among primary brain tumors, glioblastoma is the most aggressive and modern therapies have not significantly improved patient survival rates. Recent studies have shown that cannabigerol (CBG) may be a promising alternative to THC for treating glioblastoma, as it has similar anti-tumor effects without the psychoactive side effects. CBG has been found to effectively impair the progression of glioblastoma and destroy therapy-resistant cancer stem cells, suggesting it may have potential as a new adjuvant treatment strategy for this lethal cancer.

Valorization of CBD-hemp through distillation to provide essential oil and improved cannabinoids profile

Valtcho D. Zheljazkov et al.

Summary: The study showed that distillation can improve the compositional profile of cannabinoids in hemp biomass, converting cannabinoid acids into cannabinoids like CBD and CBC. Distilled hemp biomass had higher cannabinoid content compared to non-distilled, with the addition of CBN in the distilled biomass.

Flavonoids in Cannabis sativa: Biosynthesis, Bioactivities, and Biotechnology

Johanna L. Bautista et al.

Summary: While cannabis synthesizes a wide range of phytochemicals, research has primarily focused on two phytocannabinoids, THC and CBD, for their distinctive activities in humans. Flavonoid metabolism and the entourage effect are currently understudied, with cannflavins, unique to cannabis, being a topic of recent research focus. Advances in omics tools are enabling further exploration of flavonoid metabolism and manipulation of flavonoid production for potential health benefits and drug development.

Essential Oil of Cannabis sativa L: Comparison of Yield and Chemical Composition of 11 Hemp Genotypes

Ylenia Pieracci et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the yield and chemical composition of essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from eleven hemp genotypes in two consecutive growing seasons. Sesquiterpenes and cannabinoids were found to be the main compounds in hemp essential oils, with statistical analysis showing a partition based on the year of cultivation rather than the genotype. Significant variation in extraction yield was observed among genotypes and cultivation years.
