Comparison of structural differences between yeast -glucan sourced from different strains of saccharomyces cerevisiae and processed using proprietary manufacturing processes

Jean A. Boutros et al.

Summary: The study found that each proprietary source of yeast 8-glucan has a unique purity profile, branching, and linkage patterns that determine the chemical structure and composition.

Preparation of pectin-based nanofibers encapsulating Lactobacillus rhamnosus 1.0320 by electrospinning

Cong Xu et al.

Summary: Pectin-based nanofibers were successfully prepared by electrospinning for the first time to encapsulate probiotics. The PVA/PEC nanofibers showed good thermal stability and had potential applications in probiotic preservation. The viability of Lactobacillus rhamnosus 1.0320 encapsulated by electrospinning was highest when the PVA:PEC ratio was 9:1, with a survival rate of 89.26%, even after storage at 4 degrees C for 21 days.

Synthesis of new methoxy derivatives of trans 2,3-diaryl-2,3-dihydroben-zofurans and evaluation of their anti-inflammatory activity

T. Laurita et al.

Summary: In this study, new methoxy derivatives of trans 2,3-diaryl-2,3-dihydrobenzofurans were synthesized and tested for anti-inflammatory properties in U937 cells. These compounds exhibited significant inhibition of the NF-kappa B pathway and restoration of normal ROS and NO levels post LPS activation. Enantioenriched compounds showed greater potency and stereoselective interaction in the pathway, indicating potential for targeted anti-inflammatory therapy.

A Phenylacetamide Resveratrol Derivative Exerts Inhibitory Effects on Breast Cancer Cell Growth

Adele Chimento et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory activity of phenylacetamide resveratrol derivatives in cancer cell lines, with derivative 2 showing the highest bioavailability and anti-tumor activity, especially against breast cancer cells. The derivatives, particularly derivative 2, inhibited NO and ROS synthesis and PGE2 secretion, induced cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death in breast cancer cell lines, highlighting their potential as promising tools for developing new and more bioavailable derivatives for breast cancer treatment.

Probiotics, Photobiomodulation, and Disease Management: Controversies and Challenges

Laura Marinela Ailioaie et al.

Summary: In recent years, researchers have discovered a relationship between whole microbial colonization and the development of medical disorders, leading to the development of new microbial products to maintain the health of the intestinal microbiome. The interactions between probiotics and the human microbiome in photobiology are essential for individuals with immune imbalances. Innovative treatments are urgently needed to effectively interact with the microbiome and human immune system in the coronavirus crisis.

ACLY Nuclear Translocation in Human Macrophages Drives Proinflammatory Gene Expression by NF-κB Acetylation

Anna Santarsiero et al.

Summary: Macrophage stimulation by pathogen-associated molecular patterns drives a proinflammatory response through the activation of metabolic enzyme ATP citrate lyase (ACLY) and the subsequent NF-kappa B acetylation. The activation of ACLY leads to increased expression of proinflammatory genes, forming a proinflammatory loop involving SLC25A1 and ACLY genes.

Phenolic Compounds of Red Wine Aglianico del Vulture Modulate the Functional Activity of Macrophages via Inhibition of NF-κB and the Citrate Pathway

Anna Santarsiero et al.

Summary: Phenolic compounds in red wine powder show potential immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects by reducing proinflammatory cytokines secretion, restoring Annexin A1 levels, lowering NF-kappa B activity, and regulating metabolic genes involved in the citrate pathway, ultimately leading to suppression of inflammatory pathways and activation of proresolutive processes in macrophages.
