Disease outbreaks linked to pasteurized and unpasteurized dairy products in Canada and the United States: a systematic review

Meghan Sebastianski et al.

Summary: Both pasteurized and unpasteurized dairy products can cause disease outbreaks, but outbreaks from unpasteurized products have more cases and higher mortality rates. Listeria is the main pathogen responsible for outbreaks from pasteurized products. Continued public warnings about the risk of consuming unpasteurized dairy products are necessary, especially for pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals to be aware of Listeria contamination in high-risk foods.

Multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli in Raw Milk: Molecular Characterization and the potential impact of camel's Urine as an Antibacterial Agent

Ayman Elbehiry et al.

Summary: Raw milk serves as a crucial vehicle for transmitting various pathogens, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli). This study identified E. coli in mastitic cow's milk and examined their resistance to antibiotics, as well as the impact of camel's urine on multi-drug resistant E. coli. Findings showed that most E. coli strains carried virulence genes and exhibited resistance to multiple antibiotics, while camel's urine, particularly from virgin camels, demonstrated strong antimicrobial activity against these resistant strains.

The ABC-Type Efflux Pump MacAB Is Involved in Protection of Serratia marcescens against Aminoglycoside Antibiotics, Polymyxins, and Oxidative Stress

Tatiana V. Shirshikova et al.

Summary: The MacAB efflux pump in Serratia marcescens is essential for protection from aminoglycoside antibiotics and polymyxins, modulation of bacterial motility, and biofilm formation. The pump is also crucial for bacterial survival during oxidative stress, making it a potential target for controlling S. marcescens infections.

Microbial Safety of Smoothie Drinks from Fresh Bars Collected in Slovakia

Monika Krahulcova et al.

Summary: Among consumers in Slovakia, smoothies are becoming increasingly popular and their microbiological safety depends on hygiene standards. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria were found in at least one fresh bar in the sampled smoothies, with coliform bacteria prevailing, particularly in green smoothies or juices with more vegetable ingredients. The most effective way to decrease bacterial counts in the final product was found to be washing ingredients with a biocide agent containing silver and hydrogen peroxide.
