Poor sleep is associated with higher blood pressure and uterine artery pulsatility index in pregnancy: a prospective cohort study

Y. Tang et al.

Summary: This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the association between sleep disturbances and blood pressure as well as uterine artery Doppler during pregnancy in women without pre-existing hypertension. The results showed that poor sleep quality was significantly associated with higher blood pressure, especially in the first trimester, and higher uterine artery pulsatility index during pregnancy. Overall, shorter sleep duration, poorer sleep efficiency, and poor sleep quality during pregnancy were all found to be related to adverse maternal outcomes.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) Risk for Declared Family History of Diabetes, in Combination with BMI Categories

Malgorzata Lewandowska

Summary: Some categories of family history of diabetes are independent risk factors for GDM-1 or GDM-2. Cumulative assessment of diabetes in parents and/or grandparents was not related to increased GDM risk, except for simultaneous diabetes in mother and grandmothers. In subgroups of different BMI categories, paternal diabetes was an independent risk factor for GDM in pregnant women with normal BMI, while the risk was higher in overweight and/or obese women with diabetes in both parents. The study also suggests a significant influence of paternal diabetes on GDM risk, even in lean pregnant women.

Demographic, Pregnancy-Related, and Health-Related Factors in Association with Changes in Sleep Among Pregnant Women with Overweight or Obesity

Rachel P. Kolko Conlon et al.

Summary: This study found that sleep quality worsens during pregnancy among women with prepregnancy overweight/obesity, especially in the third trimester, and is associated with current smoking. Prepregnancy weight status, age, parity, race, education, and income were not significantly associated with sleep changes.
