Textures, provenances, and transport patterns of sediment on the inner shelf of the East China Sea

Jingyi Cong et al.

Summary: This study utilized grain size and clay mineral analyses of surficial sediment samples and high-resolution subbottom seismic profile interpretation to identify the provenance and texture of mud wedge sediments in the inner shelf of the East China Sea. The findings revealed that sediment sources in this area are mixed, mainly coming from the Yangtze River, small mountainous rivers along the Zhejiang-Fujian coast, and western Taiwan coast.

Summary: Analysis of pollen data collected from four coastal cores in Fujian province reveals new evidence of vegetation, sea level, and climate changes since late marine isotope stage. The reconstructed optimum climate during early MIS3 period showed strong correlation with summer monsoon signal.
