Combined video-hydroacoustic survey of nearshore semi-pelagic rockfish in untrawlable habitats

Leif K. Rasmuson et al.

Summary: This study tests the effectiveness of integrating data from a suspended underwater camera with acoustic data to estimate the populations of nearshore Black, Blue, and Deacon Rockfish. The results show that combining camera data with hydroacoustic data can provide similar population estimates as historic surveys, but accurate acoustic density estimates depend on using the correct acoustic target-strength model.

Atlantic sturgeon presence in a designated marine hydrokinetic test site prior to turbine deployment: A baseline study

Jessie Lilly et al.

Summary: The study used acoustic tagging technology to investigate the presence of Atlantic sturgeon in the FORCE sites and showed that a significant portion of tagged sturgeon were detected in those areas. Tide type was found to be the only significant predictor of sturgeon depth and presence in the FORCE sites.

Application of a multibeam echosounder to document changes in animal movement and behaviour around a tidal turbine structure

Benjamin J. Williamson et al.

Summary: This study investigated animal movement and behavior around tidal stream turbine structures using multibeam echosounder data. The majority of tracked animals were observed swimming against the flow, with many showing capability of manoeuvring in tidal stream flow speeds. The data also highlighted the benefits of using multibeam echosounders to measure animal movement accurately.
