Importance of rhodoliths as habitats for benthic communities in impacted environments

Dimitri de Araujo Costa et al.

Summary: The study revealed that rhodolith beds are sensitive to sediment and environmental impacts, where rhodolith density and invertebrate diversity and density are influenced by environmental factors. In cleaner beaches, polychaetes and echinoderms dominate, while suspension feeders, particularly bivalves, are dominant in more polluted beaches.

Taxonomic and functional diversity of benthic macrofauna associated with rhodolith beds in SE Brazil

Patricia Sarcinelli Stelzer et al.

Summary: Rhodolith beds provide a unique habitat for benthic macrofaunal communities with exclusive functional and taxonomic richness. The density and morphology of rhodoliths influence the macrofaunal assemblages, with higher density beds supporting greater diversity and different dominant species.
