Physiological and metabolic effects of glyphosate as the sole P source on a cosmopolitan phytoplankter and biogeochemical implications

Cong Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of using glyphosate as a phosphorus source in marine phytoplankton. The results showed that glyphosate supported population growth but to a lesser extent compared to traditional sources of phosphorus. The cells grown on glyphosate exhibited higher sinking rates and increased efficiency of carbon export. Further research is needed to fully understand the biogeochemical implications of this finding.
