Combination of X-ray tube and GMDH neural network as a nondestructive and potential technique for measuring characteristics of gas-oil-water three phase flows

Mohammadmehdi Roshani et al.

Summary: A new system based on fan-beam photon attenuation was proposed to recognize the type of flow regime and predict gas-oil-water volume fractions in a three phase flow, achieving correct recognition of flow patterns and volume fraction prediction with RMS error less than 3.1.

Predicting the compressive strength of concrete containing metakaolin with different properties using ANN

M. J. Moradi et al.

Summary: Metakaolin is widely used in the concrete industry as a supplementary cementitious material, with its mechanical properties mainly influenced by specific surface area and SiO2/Al2O3 ratio. ANN models have been developed to estimate the compressive strength of concretes containing MK, showing good agreement with experimental results.

Predicting the Effect of Fly Ash on Concrete's Mechanical Properties by ANN

Mohammad Mehdi Roshani et al.

Summary: Fly ash, as a supplementary pozzolanic material, can reduce the environmental impact of concrete by decreasing CO2 emissions. A novel method using artificial neural networks has been used to successfully predict the mechanical characteristics of concrete with added Fly ash.

Evaluation of flow pattern recognition and void fraction measurement in two phase flow independent of oil pipeline's scale layer thickness

Mohammadmehdi Roshani et al.

Summary: The objective of this research is to use an intelligent nondestructive technique based on gamma radiation attenuation and artificial intelligence to determine flow pattern and gas volume percentage in two-phase flow independently of scale layer thickness. The system was able to identify annular regime and measure void fraction regardless of petroleum pipeline's scale layer thickness.

The prediction of fire performance of concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) using artificial neural network

M. J. Moradi et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the impact of key parameters on the fire performance of CFST columns using artificial neural networks and derives predictive relationships for FRR and RSI. The developed ANN models show higher stability and accuracy compared to existing empirical relationships, with correlation coefficients of 0.967 and 0.97 for FRR and RSI, respectively. The derived relationships can be used for designing new CFST columns, retrofitting existing ones, and conducting risk assessments in fires.

Numerical Study on Seismic Behavior of Composite Shear Walls with Steel-Encased Profiles Subjected to Different Axial Load

Amirhoshang Akhaveissy et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the axial compressive load ratio has a negative impact on the seismic behavior of shear walls. Shear walls with steel-encased profiles exhibit greater flexibility, stiffness, and energy dissipation compared to typical reinforced concrete shear walls under the same axial load.

A Multi-Pier-Macro MPM method for the progressive failure analysis of perforated masonry walls in-plane loaded

Hiva Pirsaheb et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a reliable numerical procedure called MPM method, which can be used by inexperienced practitioners using software equipped only with non-linear truss elements with softening for progressive failure analysis of large scale perforated masonry walls. The MPM method overcomes the drawbacks of the MP method by modeling each component of a large and perforated wall with the minimum number of truss elements to achieve fast and reliable progressive failure analysis of large existing structures subjected to horizontal loads.

Dynamic behavior of corroded RC slabs with macro-level stochastic finite element simulations

Kambiz Daneshvar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamic behavior of RC slabs with corroded reinforcement and concrete deterioration through accelerated corrosion tests and low-velocity impact load tests. The research found that rebar corrosion and concrete aging have a crucial effect on structural capacity, and utilized a macro-scale finite element model to simulate the heterogeneous deterioration in concrete and rebar.
