Power Generation Performance of a Pilot-Scale Reverse Electrodialysis Using Monovalent Selective Ion-Exchange Membranes

Soroush Mehdizadeh et al.

Summary: Reverse electrodialysis (RED) is a promising process for energy harvesting without environmental impacts by utilizing the salinity gradient between two solutions. In a study on Okinawa Island, Japan, integrating seawater desalination via reverse osmosis (RO) with RED process showed improved power generation performance, especially when using natural and model RO brines with river water as feed solutions.
