New bimetallic adsorbent material based on cerium-iron nanoparticles highly selective and affine for arsenic(V)

Summary: Bimetallic oxy(hydroxides) have gained significant interest in water treatment for their potential as highly efficient anion adsorbents. This study focuses on the synthesis of cerium and iron bimetallic oxyhydroxides (Ce:Fe-P's) using microwave-assisted methods. The Ce:Fe-P's exhibit outstanding adsorption capacity and fast adsorption kinetics for arsenic(V), with little interference from pH and coexisting anions. The results suggest that Ce:Fe-P's are a promising adsorbent material for arsenic(V) in water treatment.

The role of hydroxyl and amino groups in the adsorption process was revealed through FTIR and XPS analyses.
