Organic matter removal and nitrogen transformation by a constructed wetland-microbial fuel cell system with simultaneous bioelectricity generation

Thais Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Microbial fuel cells integrated into constructed wetlands showed promising results in organic matter removal and nitrogen transformation for wastewater treatment. The presence of vegetation, particularly Schoenoplectus californicus, and the operation of the systems under batch-mode conditions led to improved performance in terms of chemical oxygen demand removal efficiency and NH4+-N removal efficiency. The study also highlighted the significance of anaerobic oxidation on the anodes in enhancing wastewater treatment performance.

Dye decolorization and energy recovery of photocatalytic fuel cell subjected to optimization of supporting electrolyte concentration and external resistance

Yong-Por Ong et al.

Summary: The study found that the concentrations of supporting electrolyte and external resistance were crucial to the efficiency of a photocatalytic fuel cell, with increasing Na2SO4 concentration leading to higher power density, and matching external resistance significantly enhancing power density but decreasing dye decolorization rate.

Crucial roles of aeration and catalyst on caffeine removal and bioelectricity generation in a double chambered microbial fuel cell integrated electrocatalytic process

Kea-Lee Yap et al.

Summary: The presence of copper (II) oxide (CuO) and aeration significantly enhanced the performance of MFC in caffeine removal and electricity generation. The CuO/C cathode showed the highest maximum power density and current density under aerated condition, leading to a 15-fold higher removal efficiency of caffeine compared to bare carbon plate.
