Evaluation of benefits through coordinated control of numerous thermal energy storage in highly electrified heat systems

Zihang Dong et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a novel decentralised control approach for coordinating the operation of a large population of residential thermal energy storage devices, effectively achieving cost savings and distribution network management. Simulation studies show that the method can significantly increase system cost savings and prevent local network overload.

Co-optimization of resilient gas and electricity networks; a novel possibilistic chance-constrained programming approach

Vahid Shabazbegian et al.

Summary: A novel possibilistic model for the integrated operation of gas and power systems is proposed in this study, which takes into account uncertainty in demand prediction and output power of wind farms and applies a contingency analysis algorithm based on maximin optimization. The model allows the gas network to respond efficiently to demand variations and reduces wind curtailment. By applying the contingency analysis algorithm in the presence of demand response and electric vehicles, the operation costs and load shedding costs are significantly reduced.

Performance analysis of a gas-solid thermochemical energy storage using numerical and experimental methods

Jana Stengler et al.

Summary: This study focuses on gas-solid reaction storage designs for high-power applications, using axial aluminum fins to increase heat conductivity and strontium bromide for reactions at 160-320 degrees Celsius, achieving specific thermal powers up to 250 W/kg. The combination of experimental and numerical studies allows for the quantitative evaluation of heat transfer parameters on maximum thermal power, providing insights for scaling up the current storage design for large-scale applications.

Experimental and numerical investigations for effective thermal conductivity in packed beds of thermochemical energy storage materials

Khuram Walayat et al.

Summary: Salt hydrates are promising candidates for long-term thermochemical heat storage in buildings, releasing and storing energy through dehydration and hydration reactions. Understanding heat and mass transfer processes in the packed beds of salt hydrates is crucial to construct an improved system, as poor transfer can be a bottleneck in the technology.

Reliability and Vulnerability Assessment of Multi-Energy Systems: An Energy Hub Based Method

Wujing Huang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for assessing the reliability and vulnerability of multi-energy systems using energy hub model. The use of multi-parametric linear programming with a self-adaptive critical region set can significantly reduce computational burden and improve efficiency. Results from a case study demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in evaluating energy supply reliability and identifying critical components in MES planning.
