Fabrication of porous carbon nanofibril/MnO2 composite aerogels from TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils for high-performance supercapacitors

Yu Chen et al.

Summary: Carbon nanofibrils (CTOCN) /Manganese dioxide (MnO2) composite aerogels with 20.8 wt% MnO2 content exhibited outstanding electrochemical performance, serving as a promising electrode material for supercapacitors. The composite delivered a maximum specific capacitance of 171.1 F g(-1) at 0.5 A g(-1) and maintained 98.4% of the initial value after 5000 cycles at 3 A g(-1), showcasing excellent cycle life and energy density.

Raw cellulose/polyvinyl alcohol blending separators prepared by phase inversion for high-performance supercapacitors

Yingqi Heng et al.

Summary: The biodegradable cellulose-based separator CP-20, fabricated with a simple blending and phase inversion process, shows higher mechanical strength, better wettability, higher porosity, and electrolyte uptake compared to other CP films. The electrochemical tests demonstrate that the SC-20 capacitor with CP-20 as separator exhibits the best performance among the capacitors with CP films. The CP films show promising potential as separators for supercapacitors.

Layer-by-layer assembled free-standing and flexible nanocellulose/porous Co3O4 polyhedron hybrid film as supercapacitor electrodes

Lidong Xiao et al.

Summary: Dual-layer films of free-standing nanocellulose/ZIF-67 derived porous Co3O4 polyhedrons were successfully assembled using a water-based paper-making process. Nanocellulose served as a flexible substrate and reduced the cost by replacing expensive polymer binders, while the NFC/porous Co3O4 polyhedron composite layer acted as a free-standing electrode with higher capacitance and power density. The hybrid film showed good flexibility and foldability with increasing NFC content, providing insights into flexible and free-standing supercapacitor electrodes derived from MOF-derived metal oxide powders.

A self-supported electrode for supercapacitors based on nanocellulose/multi-walled carbon nanotubes/polypyrrole composite

Peng Lv et al.

Summary: A self-supported electrode based on nanocellulose fibers, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and polypyrrole was successfully prepared and studied for its feasibility as an electrode for supercapacitors. The ternary composite exhibited a large specific capacitance and excellent cycling stability, making it a promising candidate for high-performance electrodes in supercapacitors.
