Lactobacillus casei Zhang exerts anti-obesity effect to obese glut1 and gut-specific-glut1 knockout mice via gut microbiota modulation mediated different metagenomic pathways

Qiuwen He et al.

Summary: Abrogating gut epithelial GLUT1 activity affects gut microbiota, fat mass accumulation, and glucose tolerance, while LCZ administration reduces fat mass accumulation and central obesity. Probiotic administration significantly impacts body weight, fat accumulation, and gut microbiota modulation, thus playing a role in anti-obesity effect. Probiotic-mediated anti-obesity effect is linked to specific members of the Bacteroides genera, Odoribacter genera, and Alistipes finegoldii.

Lactobacillus plantarum DP189 Reduces α-SYN Aggravation in MPTP-Induced Parkinson's Disease Mice via Regulating Oxidative Damage, Inflammation, and Gut Microbiota Disorder

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: Lactobacillus plantarum DP189 alleviates alpha-synuclein (α-SYN) aggregates in the substantia nigra (SN) of Parkinson's disease (PD) mice through various mechanisms, including activating antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways, suppressing the expression of inflammasomes, and modulating gut microbiota. These findings suggest that L. plantarum DP189 has the potential therapeutic effect in mitigating neurodegeneration in PD.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus Strain LRH05 Intervention Ameliorated Body Weight Gain and Adipose Inflammation via Modulating the Gut Microbiota in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice

Yung-Tsung Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that LRH05 significantly reduces body weight gain and WAT weight in mice, as well as improving hepatic steatosis and glucose intolerance. LRH05 can ameliorate the pro-inflammatory process by regulating gene expression and reducing inflammatory macrophage infiltration.

Beneficial effects of a combination of Clostridium cochlearium and Lactobacillus acidophilus on body weight gain, insulin sensitivity, and gut microbiota in high-fat diet-induced obese mice

Fei Yang et al.

Summary: The combination of Clostridium cochlearium and Lactobacillus acidophilus showed beneficial effects on body weight control and glucose metabolism in high-fat diet-induced obese mice. This effect was potentially mediated by the modulation of gut microbiota, leading to reduced obesity and improved glucose homeostasis.

Liang-Jen Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the effects of probiotics supplements using Bifidobacterium bifidum (Bf-688) on patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and their gut microbiomes. The results showed that the Bf-688 supplement improved clinical symptoms and weight gain in ADHD children, and significantly altered the composition of their gut microbiota.

Supplementation of a single species probiotic does not affect diversity and composition of the healthy adult gastrointestinal microbiome

Summary: This study examined the effect of a commercial probiotic containing Bifidobacterium infantis on the composition and diversity of gut flora in healthy adults. The findings suggest that use of a single species probiotic in healthy individuals does not significantly influence microbial gastrointestinal diversity.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of aldafermin on the gut microbiota in patients with NASH. The results showed that aldafermin had a significant effect on the stability of the gut microbial community, leading to an enrichment in the rare genus Veillonella, which may be influenced by aldafermin-mediated suppression of bile acid synthesis.

Alterations of Gastric Microbiota in Gastric Cancer and Precancerous Stages

Xinmei Zhang et al.

Summary: Microbial infections are known to contribute to gastric carcinogenesis, and changes in gastric microbiota may aid in early diagnosis of gastric cancer. This study aimed to characterize microbial changes and identify taxonomic biomarkers across stages of gastric carcinogenesis. The results showed that the richness and diversity of gastric microbiota did not show a gradual changing trend, with certain oral bacteria continuously enriching from superficial gastritis to gastric cancer. Patients with gastric cancer had enrichments of both oral and environmental bacteria, while those with gastric intraepithelial neoplasia had an enrichment of intestinal commensals. Gastric cardia cancer and non-cardia cancer patients had significantly different microbiota profiles, with a higher abundance of Helicobacter in the cardia cancer patients.

Summary: The study investigated the adverse effects of pathogenic E. coli on the gut microbiota of Tibetan piglets with a history of yellow and white dysentery. Differences in microbial diversity at phylum and family levels were observed between healthy and infected piglets. Pathological alterations induced by E. coli in piglets with dysentery may provide support for effective control of diarrhoeal disease.

Host Gasdermin D restrains systemic endotoxemia by capturing Proteobacteria in the colon of high-fat diet-feeding mice

Yujie Shi et al.

Summary: Gasdermin D (GSDMD) plays a key role in regulating pyroptosis, with its secreted N-terminal domain (GSDMD-N) being crucial in the process. This study found that deficiencies in GSDMD can exacerbate issues related to high-fat diet-induced gut dysbiosis and systemic endotoxemia, while active GSDMD-N can effectively target the Proteobacteria phylum. Further research is needed to explore the potential therapeutic implications of targeting GSDMD-N in treating HFD-induced metabolic endotoxemia.
