First Molecular Detection of Polychromophilus Parasites in Brazilian Bat Species

Guilherme Augusto Minozzo et al.

Summary: This study detected the presence of Polychromophilus parasites in bats from southern Brazil for the first time, providing molecular information on these parasites in Myotis riparius, Eptesicus diminutus, and Myotis ruber. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Brazilian Polychromophilus lineages were closely related to P. murinus but formed distinct clades based on the host genus, suggesting possible circulation of different Polychromophilus species in Brazil. Further morphological and molecular studies are needed to fully characterize and describe these parasites.
