Ri sk factors and mechanisms of in vivo emergence of colistin resistance in carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

Po-Han Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors and mechanisms for in vivo emergence of colistin resistance in CRKP, revealing colistin exposure as a significant factor predisposing to resistance. Alterations in the mgrB gene were identified as the predominant mechanism for emergent colistin resistance.

Combined effect of Polymyxin B and Tigecycline to overcome Heteroresistance in Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

Yuan Tian et al.

Summary: The study revealed a high prevalence of heteroresistance to both polymyxin B (PMB) and tigecycline (TGC) among clinical isolates of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). The combination of PMB and TGC demonstrated early bactericidal activity against dual-heteroresistant K. pneumoniae strains. Upregulated expression of pmrA, phoP, and acrB genes could be related to heteroresistance mechanisms.

Efficacy of tigecycline alone or in combination for experimental infections by KPC carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae

Sotiria Fergadaki et al.

Summary: Experimental studies demonstrated that tigecycline alone or in combination effectively prolongs survival and reduces bacterial load in KPC-Kp infections in mice.

Pranita D. Tamma et al.

Summary: This guidance document provides recommendations for the treatment of antimicrobial-resistant infections caused by ESBL-E, CRE, and DTR-P. aeruginosa, with a focus on the United States. It discusses empiric treatment selection, duration of therapy, and other management considerations for both adults and children. The current version of the guidance is valid as of September 17, 2020, and will be updated periodically.
